Nippon Paint Marine’s LF series delivering propulsion benefits. A biomimetic low friction antifouling that works using a patented water trapping function to lower the hydrodynamic footprint of the hull. Stable and long term antifouling is guaranteed by the use of a special silyl-acrylate copolymer. This technology ensures long-term and stable self-polishing which keeps the fresh active coating surface constantly exposed to sea water resulting in excellent antifouling performance. Nippon Paint Marine's special silyl acrylate copolymer was developed by combining with metal-containing acrylate resin in order to support and prolong the long-term weakness of silyl acrylate resin. Therefore, generally LF series will out-perform other SPCs over time. A specially formulated and unique hydrogel has been incorporated into Nippon Paint Marine's ultra efficient silyl acrylate self-polishing antifouling paint. This hydrogel then creates a microscopic water-trapped layer at the interface between the paint film and the seawater. Water trapped layer which hydrogel creates leads to a reduction of the ships' frictional resistance. LF-series will contribute to reduce operator’s financial burden which will increase due to the cost for countermeasures against the stricter SOx regulations from Jan 2020.
