What does OCIMF MEG 4 mean to the Shipping Industry
Samson Dyneema Ropes
The Shipping industry is evolving in its approach to mooring lines and safety as evidenced in the recent MAIB report and OCIMF's publishing of the 4th edition of Mooring Equipment Guidelines (MEG4). With this evolution, vessel operators are taking a proactive approach to promoting a culture of safety and are adopting a new perspective on how mooring lines are selected, managed, maintained, and retired.
The presentation will cover an in-depth review of the benefits of equipment selection through collaboration and a systems approach, as related to the intended operational use and maintenance requirements. It will also include a case study of "K" Line LNG Shipping and Samson's Icaria program, designed to maximize life and reduce risk of mooring lines will also be discussed as an innovative approach to compliance and safety through; training and competency management, line maintenance, data management, and fleet-wide visibility of line condition and usage history. Through collaboration we can demonstrate how they have been able to promote safer, more efficient mooring operations and maximum working life of the ropes.
